Atlanta Local: Drybar

For any girl, the task of washing, blow-drying, and styling hair is undeniably arduous. It demands time, effort, and motivation to go through the hour or more it takes to look our best. Often, we find ourselves yearning for a personal stylist to ease this tedious part of our getting-ready routine, and until recently, it remained a mere dream. However, thanks to a novel salon concept sweeping the nation, our dreams are now becoming reality.

Drybar, a chain of salons with a refreshing approach, keeps it simple: “No cuts. No color. Just blowouts.”

Originating from a single location, this ingenious concept has rapidly expanded to over 25 locations in less than five years! And the good news for me is that one of those locations is right here in Atlanta!

When I discovered that Drybar had set up shop in my city, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I immediately booked an appointment online, eagerly awaiting my blowout experience. Arriving at Drybar ahead of my scheduled time, I was warmly greeted, checked in promptly, and offered a beverage. Deciding to treat myself, I opted for a complimentary glass of champagne to enjoy during my wait.

At the designated time, Sarah, my stylist, greeted me and led me to the washing station, where three other customers were also getting their hair pampered. As she washed and conditioned my hair, we engaged in friendly conversation.

Wanting to enhance my relaxation, I chose the “floater,” a ten-minute scalp massage that proved worth the extra $10. I closed my eyes and savored the much-needed relaxation. When it was time to style my hair, I was handed a menu showcasing different hairstyles to choose from. I found it challenging to decide, but Sarah was extremely helpful with her suggestions.

Together, we settled on a slightly curlier version of the Mai Tai, which she affectionately referred to as the “Mary Kate” style. Sold on the idea, I delighted in the casual chat with Sarah as she styled my hair.

There’s something special about the salon experience, where you feel comfortable sharing things with your stylist that you may not even tell your closest friends.

As we enjoyed the transformation, a huge flat-screen TV in front of us played the timeless classic “Dirty Dancing.” What a perfect touch!

An hour and fifteen minutes later, I was ready to go, and I couldn’t have been happier with the final result. Sarah had done a fantastic job with my hair, and her easygoing nature made the experience even more enjoyable. My time at Drybar was thoroughly delightful, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

The cost of a blowout at Drybar is $35 (or $40 in NY, DC, and SF), but they also offer memberships and bar tabs for those looking to become regular patrons.
